Footnote 5 on p. 223, "Abelam keep measures of the lengths of ceremonial yams not yet matched by exchange partners. In 1988 I measured the markers of the ceremonial group with which I reside, a sample of nine fairly good specimens grown over the past few years. The average length was just under 8 feet(mean=2.43 m.; S.D.=0.29 m.), with the largest specimen being 9' 5" (2.87 m.) long and over 30" (0.77 m.) in circumference."
